Goodbye Earl

Today I attended My Grandpa Earl's funeral. He had a very blessed long life , he passed at 94 , he and my Grandma Elaine had married for 69 years..I was sitting by my great aunt Bonnie when Pastor Haydon announced that during the service..I guess i never realized just how long that they had been together..I looked at Bonnie and said "Wow, I didn't realize, 69 years!"...Bonnie said "Oh yes, Sweetie (in her very Chicago accent) and I was married to Wilber for 60 years..and let me tell you, you work at it everyday, you don't give up..you keep it alive!" I just love hearing elders advise....So maybe I'll me a little nicer to Jode this week!=)

I think my Grandpa Earl was one of the sweetest, stylish, funny men I ever knew..and still looked adorable at 94! I was at my Mom and Dad's house a few years ago and My dad had brought home all these shoes of Earl's that he was getting rid of, It was so funny ..all the shoes were in the original box with the receipt still in them. I kept a pair I thought were so cute..they were green alligator dress shoes..he had paid $40 for them in the 60's.

One of my favorite memories of Grandpa Earl is ..When I was in the 2nd grade and living in Eureka Springs, he use to pick me up from school and drive me home, well one day when he picked me up I was crying ...He ask me what was wrong, I told him it was report card day..and I didn't want to go home! He laughed and told me what I should do.."Tell your Mom & Dad that A's are awful, B's are bad, C's are crap, D's are dandy , and F's are fantastic!! I thought that was so funny!
